Manhattan Rooftop Renovation

In space-starved Manhattan, extra square footage is a rarity and private outdoor space is a coveted amenity. So, when the Dixon Projects team was tapped to revamp a private client’s rooftop deck in the core of the Big Apple, the team knew straight away how important it would be to create a livable outdoor space that felt like an extension of the interior. An added challenge, the team needed to fully maximize the potential of this outdoor area, all while the client resided in the home.

A Modern Redesign for New Outdoor Space

Upon arrival to the site, the Projects team was greeted by a two-story, weathered wood deck in dire need of a modern facelift. After determining the scope of work, the team knew the entire area would become a full construction site. Given this, it was critical that the team adhered to the daily schedules of the residents, so as not to infringe on their personal lives.

Further, as with any exterior work, inclement weather would play an integral role throughout the construction process. Expert planning, accounting for poor weather conditions in advance, and close coordination with the residents allowed the team to finish on the exact date promised at the onset of this renovation.

What resulted was an urban outdoor living design that continued the modern flair from the interior of the home. Porcelain pavers created a clean, fresh aesthetic, perfect for indoor/outdoor living. The team strategically integrated bench seating with built-in storage throughout both levels of the deck to optimize the space and capture stunning views, creating a truly impressive outdoor experience.

To take the space to the next level, the team added a full wet-bar, letting the residents easily entertain or dine alfresco in this airy retreat. To top it off, the team upgraded the railings for a modern feel, constructed new privacy fencing to perfectly match the built-in seating, and placed minimalist light fixtures throughout this stunning space.
