Depending on the size and scope of work, a typical co-op/condo renovation can take anywhere from 3-7 months as a general rule of thumb. Coordinating with your co-op/condo’s board, building superintendent and any contractors involved will help to expedite the overall process.
If the renovation is more cosmetic and doesn’t include plumbing, electrical, or other work requiring a permit, the process can begin as soon as design layouts have been approved. If permits are required, changes will need to be approved by the Department of Buildings (DOB) which will add more time. In any case, it’s important to research your building and its construction policies to understand what’s allowable--or if there are limited construction hours.
